About me...

Prior to travel photography, after leaving my home state of Texas, I spent a career in politics. For nearly two decades, much of my life revolved around public affairs at the federal level of government at home and abroad. Now based in New York City, I have long since swapped my neckties for a camera leash, beefed-up and stained the pages of my passport, and dedicated the last several years documenting people and places all over the world.

Here is how that all began...

Chapter One

A life in politics led me to the White House, serving six years in various roles, including as a spokesman for the President. It was there that I got to know the wider world - how countries, peoples, and governments interact - and how those interactions shape our collective future. I will always consider that experience the opportunity of a lifetime, and regard the people and the time I spent there with reverence and appreciation. The obvious choice was to continue along that path, yet something was missing...

Capítulo Dos: Panama

Re-thinking a corporate career that might likely follow, and guided by my firm conviction that I am allergic to meetings, cubicles, and mandatory team-building exercises, I followed my dream of living abroad, putting an MBA to use, and starting my own business. I found the perfect refuge in Panama. Dodging colorful locals, modern-day pirates, and unscrupulous ex-pats that had washed ashore, I managed to successfully navigate Panama's business climate, founding Panama's Ironman, sustainable eco-tourism programs; and even produced a Hollywood flick. Yet after five years there, I again began looking for a new challenge...

Chapter Three...

After much planning and saving, I set off on a year-long, solo adventure that spanned six continents, more than 25 countries, and well over 100 cities and towns (and still counting!). That experience taught me how to travel deliberately -- and about what makes a meaningful photograph. Inspired by what I discovered then, and continue to depend upon today, my photography reflects a knack for getting into (and out of) tight spots, a steadfast commitment to self-reliance, and how to see and live life creatively. I firmly believe that immersive travel remains the best education anyone could receive.
