Railway Market at Mandalay

Among Mandalay’s many colorful charms, their street markets aren’t to be missed. Nearly always busy, they are great places to watch the chaos of commerce - what the local culture demands and sells. The market at Thu Ye Zae, just a few blocks north of the city citadel’s northern perimeter, has it in spades. It’s a sprawling, ramshackle area that provides a daily spectacle for the senses, where everything under-the-sun is sold. If that isn’t enough stimulation, there is a fully loaded passenger train that passes through it three times a day. The experience is a must for anyone visiting the area and has a few hours to spare.
